Well, it is a long story, and you have probably heard most of it already. Here is the very short version:
Our precious Patrick Joseph was born at 2240 (10:40pm) on Tuesday, October 9th. Due to complications, his placenta separated from the uterine wall during labor, causing him to be on very little to no oxygen for upwards of 20 minutes. He was delivered via emergency c-section with no pulse and it took 2 minutes to revive him. He was immediately sent to Providence Hospital's NICU and has been receiving wonderful care there. Brain damage is very likely, but the road to finding out its extent is going to be a lifelong one. An EEG and MRI may give us some answers in the near future, but even that may be further out than we hope.
As for myself, they saved my uterus and fallopian tube, both of which were compromised. But, after going through it, I must say that before they knocked me out with sedatives, listening to the comments of the surgeon and nurses, I was just praying that my son and I would leave the OR alive. The uterus was an extra special blessing.
Finally, as you can see by the picture, at least one blessing has come out of this horrendous experience. Joe arrived home this afternoon ahead of schedule.
Thank you for all of your prayers thus far, and please keep them coming. Our little guy is beautiful, but it is amazing the effects that a damaged brain can have on the body.
