20120627 - 20120628 Joe's Departure

We safely arrived about 5 miles away in our new home on post. That is, WE arrived safely... not numerous kitchen goods and other articles... but that is now all behind us. Our duplex had been furnished, so we quickly set up what little furniture we had so that we could have at least the semblance of comfort for Joe's last couple days with us.

While Joe packed, he and the kids enjoyed some movies. David particularly enjoyed his first viewing of Star Wars. If you look closely, you can see that he has his light saber in hand as he watches.

And a very poor view of the rest of our "furniture" and unpacked boxes.

Joe did have to run to the Company for a short period of time the day before he left, so the kids and I took advantage of the time in order to check out our new park right around the corner!

The last story time with daddy... just board books were available... the rest still being boxed somewhere.

Joe's last day was actually very nice. He didn't leave until the evening, so we had the whole day for him to finalize packing and goof off with the kids whenever possible. Then we got to have a relaxing final dinner with even an hour plus to spare afterwards... fitting in some tickling before the final goodbyes. It was also nice, because we got our tears out over supper to that we could have a smiley goodbye when the time came. Lastly, Joe was very smart and had a fellow Lieutenant drive him to the airport so that we did not have to be around all the other families having an emotional goodbye in public. We could just do it ourselves in the comfort of home. It was actually very nice.

So here are the final pics with dad.

And some shots of his departure...

Therese just had an emotional moment once he rode off, but was soon quickly distracted by the beautiful evening and our wonderful backyard (did I mention that we have actual live grass?).

And, in conclusion, a quick shot of our little bunny friend who often visits our yard. He (or she?) too enjoys the rare beauty (and yumminess) of real, living grass in the desert!

Well, we didn't have much time to dwell on daddy leaving, because we were soon flying out to the Midwest to see family. Also, it took Joe about a week to arrive at his destination, so all conversations during that time were light-hearted and positive, which made the transition easier.

Love, Us.
