An Unexpected Adventure: The Iowa Flat

We were driving along, thankful to be missing the rain, halfway or more through Iowa.
And then it happened.
A flat.
Praise God it was a rear tire and didn't cause much if any erraticism in my 70mph driving.
We pulled over to evaluate and call Bumpa, since it was his van and tire.
Like I said, it was a gorgeous day.
Couldn't ask for a better day to be stuck on the side of the freeway for 4 hours!

A super wonderful state trooper came to aid us.
We got the spare out and ready.

Then he did his best to remove the flat.

Unfortunately, his available tools were not successful.
The tire was fused to the rest of the van.

So...we called (and waited an hour) for a tow truck to come aid us.
It arrived.

He whacked it with a hunk of wood.

He conquered!

We were finally back on the road with 4 inflated tires.
We made it to Walmart with just a couple minutes to spare before their automotive section closed.
We took advantage of their Subway for supper, paid for our new tires,
and headed south while trying to locate decent beds for us to retire in.
That search proved much more difficult than I'd hoped.
So...after many tears on my part, along with soothing words from my husband,
we found ourselves two very comfortable beds (but no breakfast or wifi) for $210.

Oh well. I was ready to sleep. And so we did.

Love, Us.
